As far as enlargement countries, which absorb
8.1% of Greek exports, are concerned, there has
been a substantial 7.8% increase in the total
value of exports, to €2,177.6 million from
€2,020.7 million in 2013.
Cyprus remains the main export market among
enlargement countries, as it absorbs 56.6% of
exports to this region, increased by 9.8%, from
€1,122.4 million to €1,231.8 million. There was
also an improvement in the exports towards the
other 4 main buyers of Greek products in this
region. More specifically, exports to Poland
increased by 12.1% (from €288.5 million to
€323.3 million), while exports to the Czech
Republic rose by 28.6% (from €146.5 million to
€188.4 million), to Malta by 46% (from €86.7 mil-
lion to €126.6 million) and to Hungary by 13%
(from €90.8 million to €102.6 million).
In regard to the remaining countries, exports to
Slovenia stand out for their substantial 44.3%
drop (from €168.1 million to €93.6 million), while
exports to Slovakia fell by -3.8% (from €63.3 mil-
lion to €60.9 million).
The 5.5% decrease in exports to North America
(from €1,141.8 million to €1,078.7 million) is due
to the substantial drop in dispatches to the main
market of this region, i.e. the United States, which
fell to €821.2 million from €934.2 million, reduced
by 12.1% year-on-year. Exports to Canada rose
by a substantial 43.4% (from €88.6 million to
€127 million), while exports to Mexico followed
suit, increasing by 9.5%, from €119.1 million to
€130.5 million.
Greek exports to “other developed countries” rose
by 3% (from €183.2 million to €188.6 million),
although they still account for a very small share
of total exports (0.7% in 2014). This meagre
increase is due to the increase of dispatches to
