2. technological upgrading, innovation, and
power storage;
3. energy efficiency;
4. the restriction of carbon emissions; and

Energy efficiency is a key part of
the new energy plan
The Minister has stated that “the government is
ready to take major initiatives, to ensure, on one
hand, the achievement of the national energy effi-
ciency targets and, on the other had, its active

National Energy Council. Environment and
Energy Minister Giorgos Stathakis has publicly
outlined the steps taken by the government in
regard to energy.

National Energy Council
Mr. Stathakis has announced the foundation of a
National Energy Council, which will involve all
stakeholders in the sector, including consumers.
The aim is to prepare a reliable long-term nation-
al energy plan that will, in turn, lead to the cre-
ation of a stable investment environment.

Model from 2018, the gradual reduction of PPC’s
share to 50% by 2020, and the launching of major
international projects, such as gas pipelines: these
are the main developments that are expected to be
set in motion in the domestic energy market in the
next few years, starting in 2017.
