o, life’s great winners will be meeting in
Athens from June 25 to July 4 2011. A total
of 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from
180 countries will participate in 22 Olympic-style
sports in the birthplace of “fair play”.
The first among the event’s 25,000 volunteers is
the President of the Republic of Greece, Mr.
Carolos Papoulias, while the Prime Minister,
George Papandreou, and the leader of the major
opposition, Antonis Samaras, are founding mem-
bers of Special Olympics Hellas.
These special games will be held in Greece in a
period when the country’s citizens are making an
unprecedented effort to “tidy up” the economy.

A unique sportive
event
Seven years after the 2004 Olympics, Greece has the
honour of organizing the only sportive event where
all participants are considered to be winners even
before competing.
