lowest scores among the countries under consid-
eration and being the only countries with a score
below 100. In January, Turkey recorded a decline
of 2.3% and Greece recorded a decline of 0.3%.
Countries that raise their scores above the OECD
average are the ones that are expected to show
relatively increased demand, while the opposite
stands for countries with below-average, or
falling, scores. In the other cases, the
increase/decrease of the index indicates increas-
ing/decreasing propensity to consume, while
scores above/below the OECD average indicate
markets where consumers show comparatively
higher/lower confidence. In any case, one should
take into account each country’s capacity to con-
sume, based on per capita GDP and available
income data.
Based on the consumer confidence index, strong
demand can be expected from the Czech
Republic, Finland, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland,
Slovakia, and the US, and to a lesser extent from
Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, and Sweden.
In contrast, weaker demand is expected from
Denmark, Greece, Italy, Turkey, and the UK. A
similar image emerges from flight schedule data;
the only exception is the UK, which, despite its
weak CCI score, shows an increase in the num-
ber of scheduled flights/airline bookings.
