Fields of Innovation
There have been lots of talk in Greece about the
fields where innovation can and must be devel-
oped, especially after green growth became
imperative. The fields in which innovation is sup-
ported by government policies include Electric
Energy; Renewable Energy Sources/Energy effi-
ciency; Energy policy/Climate Change/Energy
Law; Hydrocarbons & Mineral Resources; Energy
& Environmental Economics & Finance; Smart
Networks & New Technologies; Environmental
Management & Technologies; Technologies for
Energy Production; Urban Development and
Land Planning; Geopolitics of Energy; and
Energy, Environment and Public Health. Of
course, there are, also, other considerations in
regard to these fields, but it is obvious that they
are innovation-oriented.
Is Greece conducive to business
innovation?
Our era is ripe for innovation, but there is too
much talk about it, and not enough action.
Choosing quality against quantity, exploiting com-
parative advantages in conjunction with the use of
the Internet in all business activities, create a new
business culture, a “new entrepreneurship”,
which comprises:
● a shift towards specialized products and services;
● environment-friendly business activity;
● the use of new technologies, especially the
Internet and its applications. ICTs can and must
become the basic tools for research develop-
ment, continuous organisational improvement,
cost savings, efficiency and productivity gains,
simplification and flexibility, and for streamlining
the structures and processes of all businesses,
