constitute the basis of our new production model.
The sectors upon which we will stand to accom-
plish our goal are not only those in which we tra-
ditionally have an advantage, for example agro-
products. New sectors may be developed, for
example the science and technology sector,
which reflects a new dynamic trend for entrepre-
neurs. The competitive advantage of our country
in the field of our new scientists’ knowledge and
expertise must, at last, be revealed.
We intend to attach special attention to the field of
investments, which have been relentlessly
regressed during the last couple of years. Our
immediate priority lies in attracting the kind of —
new— investments that support our overall plan
of productive reconstruction — the type of invest-
ments that fall under the wider framework of
respect to the environment and that of social
sharing benefits. The field of infrastructure may
be a good example of investments that contribute
to the sustainable development of the economy.
Moreover, in the field of international economic
relations we intend to introduce the necessary
institutional expertise adjusted to our needs, as
well as best practices that will support our devel-
opment purposes and the “extrovert” dimension
of our economy. As an example, in this respect,
we may consider institutional and financial sup-
port mechanisms for small and medium-sized
enterprises (SMEs), which have been quite suc-
cessfully introduced in a number of countries.
By all means, our foreign policymaking will build
upon the expertise attained during, and the suc-
cessful undertakings of, the previous years, while
pinpointing and putting forward the necessary inno-
vation elements, which will provide our production
base with a fresh vision and a new constructive
direction.
Our actions will aim at supporting the underlying
economic logic of economic cooperation and soli-
darity, which offers, in return, much higher benefits
than the logic of unfair competition and social
dumping. Within this context, we will seek to further
develop and expand our bilateral economic rela-
tions, with both our traditional partners and the
emerging economies.
