of the national economy. To this end, the cham-
bers are operating on two, basic, modes:
Advisors to the State
●They are daily monitoring economic –national
and international– developments and social
needs, objectively assessing, at the same
time, the condition of Greece’s productive fab-
ric (current potential, needs, prospects), in
order to be able to form, at all times, a com-
prehensive picture of the strategy that best
serves the economic interests of the country
and its citizens.
●They responsibly assess the economic policies
proposed by the state and express the relevant
opinions, identifying those points that conflict
with basic and perpetual economic and social
objectives (improving national competitiveness,
eliminating inflationary pressures, reducing
unemployment, expanding exports etc.).
●They present the state with proposals on specific
and well-documented measures that are deal-
ing, effectively and without any side-effects, with
certain weaknesses of the productive capacity
and the state apparatus, in order to relieve the
country from the aforementioned causes of fiscal
derailment and growth deficits.
●They present the government of the day with
proposals for adopting strong incentives or
eliminating disincentives, encouraging foreign
productive investment, upgrading education,
research and other development infrastructures,
promoting innovative methods of production and
distribution and, in general, establishing a
favourable business climate and trust in the
country’s prospects.
Supporters of Businesses
●They promote and defend those demands of the
business world that do not conflict with the
overall interests of the economy and they pres-
ent businesses with suggestions for measures
that improve their productivity and expand their
contribution to the creation of national wealth.
●They monitor international and, in particular,
Community developments and provide the
business world with analytic information about
future prospects.
●They highlight the key parameters of a sound
entrepreneurial spirit and analyze the role busi-
ness can play for the personal success and ful-
filment of all citizens, especially young ones,
decisively contributing to the revival of the
entrepreneurial ideal.
●They create flexible structures for the special-
ization and lifelong learning of workers, with the
aim of closing the gap between the classroom
and the businesses’ needs, in order to reduce
the relevant worker adjustment cost.
●They identify growth opportunities, in Greece and
