In early October 2013, 356 African immigrants drowned trying to
reach the European Union shores, when their boat capsized shortly
before approaching the island of Lambedusa, near Sicily. It was one
of the worst tragedies involving immigrants that have ever been
recorded. At the time, many people demanded a stop to be put to
such crimes.
