I
n those occasions I have seen that the Greek
civil society is strong, full of initiatives and is
ready to meet the challenges of the post-crisis
era. Among the many issues that the EESC con-
siders as a priority, the main one is the necessity
to find concrete solutions in the fight against
youth unemployment. Especially in the field of
business we have to show the young generation
of entrepreneurs that their voice is extremely
important to us and that we are willing to support
them. Entrepreneurship has to be seen as a valid
career choice and this is only possible if we moti-
vate each other in promoting the entrepreneurial
spirit.
During my hearing at the Greek Parliament, I
stressed that citizens were disappointed by the
fact that the EU hadn’t proven its ability to protect
them from the crisis. It is imperative not to neglect
the voice of the European population.
Therefore, from the point of view of the EESC, the
Greek presidency of the EU is an opportunity for
the Union to move closer to the necessities of
European citizens, taking concrete actions
towards putting an end to the economic crisis. It
is by answering concretely to their everyday prob-
lems that Europe will gain their trust!
The EESC is conscious of the enormously
important role played in these recent years by
Greek civil society. This is why I made it an
important part of my recent visit in November
2013 to speak with the Mayor of Athens,
George Kaminis, and the representatives of the
associations that work to maintain a social line
of help.
