extensions.
The new Metro Line 4 (Perissos-Alsos Veikou-
Panepistimio-Evangelismos-Vyronas-Katechaki-
Marousi-Lykovrisi) will be 33 km long with 29
state-of-the-art stations and an estimated con-
struction budget of almost €3.3 billion, and is not
only expected to bring on drastic changes in the
transportations map of Athens, but also to signifi-
cantly improve life in the Attica basin. The cre-
ation of the new Line has major advantages, such
as the provision of services to many new densely
populated districts (Galatsi, Kipseli, Pagrati,
Kesariani, Zografou, areas around Kifissias
avenue etc.) It is estimated that this Line will be
servicing more than 500,000 passengers daily.
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and
Networks and “Attiko Metro SA” aim at tendering
the final study for the project and the construction
of the first section of the new Line (Alsos Veikou-
Evangelismos) in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
4) Elefsina-Thiva Motorway.

5) Perama-Salamina Submarine link.
According
to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the project, with a
length of 12 km, will be launched in 2011. Its
budget amounts to approximately €300 million.
6) Lefkada submarine link.
A 3 km long motor-
way, budgeted at €50 million.
7) Thessalonica Metro extensions.
Despite the
great problems and delays experienced in regard
to the construction of the main Metro axis in
Thessalonica, further extensions are being
planned. Attico Metro SA has incorporated in the
plans for the Thessalonica Metro the infrastruc-
ture required for constructing line extensions with-
out interrupting services. The first stage of exten-
sions provides for the construction of two sec-
tions: Northwest to Stavroupolis: 5 km with 5 new
stations; and Southeast to Kalamaria: 5 km with 5
new stations. The construction of the first exten-
sion of the Thessalonica Metro to Kalamaria was
