Trade with Greece 2017 - page 81

revenues that are many times higher than those
of olive oil (three times), seafood or dairy prod-
ucts (4 times), tobacco and tobacco products (5
times) and cereals (8-9 times).
According to the association’s calculations on the
basis of ELSTAT data for 2016, Greece’s rev-
enues from the export of all types of fruits and veg-
etables (fresh and processed) stood at 1.9 billion
euros, as compared to revenues of 681.3 million
euros from the export of oils and fats (including
olive oil), 653.5 million euros from seafood (fish
and fish preparations) and 592.85 million euros
from dairy produce and eggs.
It is also noted that fruit and vegetables dominate
the structure of agricultural exports, since their
export value accounts for 32% of the total value of
agricultural exports; moreover, the 1.2 billion euro
trade surplus in fruit and vegetables in 2016 fully
offset the 1.024 billion euro trade deficit in “meat
and meat preparations”, as well as the 154.78
million euro trade deficit in “dairy produce and
eggs”.
It should also be noted that the revenues gener-
ated by fruit and vegetables have been perfectly
stable over time, without any major fluctuations
and with upward trends in the past ten years,
playing a decisive role in the continuous improve-
ment of Greece’s agricultural trade deficit.
The Greek agricultural trade deficit fell by 19.2%,
thanks to the year-on-year growth of exports by
7% and the decrease in imports by 4.5% in 2016.
In fresh fruit and vegetables, the volume of
exports increased by 22.8% in 2016 as compared
to 2015, while the value of exports increased by
11.1%, according to INCOFRUIT-HELLAS esti-
mates, based on the latest ELSTAT data.
