mented, focusing on sustainable growth and inno-
vation in agriculture, as well as on the appropriate
development tools.
These programmes aim at:
●Completing the CAP architecture through a sim-
plified framework of implementing rules, thus
enhancing the competitiveness of European agri-
culture, especially in today’s competitive global
environment of agricultural markets. The frame-
work for the Common Market Organization,
whose completion will also be facilitated by the
Greek presidency, is designed to improve the
way individual sectors are organized and simplify
the procedures for managing markets, creating a
versatile structure in a fiercely competitive envi-
ronment, adding value to European farm prod-
ucts and providing farmers with crisis manage-
ment and protection tools. Special emphasis will
be placed on continuously improving the
European framework for the promotion, quality,
nutritional value, hygiene and food safety of agri-
cultural products, as well as on establishing more
environment-friendly methods for their produc-
tion. A large part of the efforts will be shifted to
highlighting and further promoting the importance
of PDO and PGI labels and organic products,
with the aim of improving the position of
European agricultural products in international
markets.
●In the veterinary field, the presidency will place
specific emphasis on animal health legislation
and the proposal for controls on human foods
and animal feeds, taking into account the fact that
these are key points for improving the health con-
dition of animals in the EU and for producing safe
human foods and animal feeds, to the benefit of
European livestock farmers and the protection of
public health.
●In the field of fisheries and aquaculture, and as
part of the new CFP, the aim will be to ensure
sustainable fishing, further support the aquacul-
ture sector and enhance the fishery products’
manufacturing and trading.
●With a focus on securing quality water resources
and their sustainable exploitation, protecting
consumers and the environment, supporting
the professionals of the sector, and promoting
and utilizing research and innovation, meas-
ures for the rational management of stocks will
be adopted, in order to achieve maximum sus-
tainable yield levels and solve the sector’s
socio-economic problems.
