The entire project is 66% complete, while the

tunnels are more than 86% complete. The

open sections of the motorway are almost 33%

          complete, as the necessary expropriations

have not been finalized, leading to inevitable

          delays.

          2) The Elefsis-Corinth-Patra-Tsakona axis of

Olympia Odos is scaled back, and a large part

          will be constructed later.

Construction work –prior to the shutdown– on

the new sections of the Corinth-Patras high-

way focused on large structures, such as tun-

          nels and bridges.

The 5 new tunnels at Derveni, Mavra Litharia,

Akrata, Platanos and Panagopoula, will reduce

travelling distances, noise and air pollution,

also providing travellers with increased safety

and comfort. Tunnelling work is complete in

regard to the Panagopoula and Derveni tun-

nels (two Corinth-bound tunnels), while a small

section of the Mavra Litharia tunnels remains

unfinished. Overall, tunnelling work is 62%

          complete.

The recommencement of the project will lead

to the construction of 120 kilometres of the

Corinth-Patras section, with two lanes and an

emergency lane per direction, and a Jersey

          barrier in the middle.

          Construction of the Patras-Pyrgos and

Alpheios-Tsakona sections, with a total length

of 164 kilometres, two lanes and an emer-

gency lane per direction plus a Jersey barrier

in the case of the former, and two lanes and a

Jersey barrier in the case of the latter section,

has been postponed to a later date.

          3) The Nea Odos concession, with a total length

of 380 km, is divided into two main sections

and includes the, 196 km long, “Ionia Odos”

motorway, which stretches from the end of the

“Harilaos Trikoupis” bridge at Antirion to

Egnatia Odos, near Ioannina (interchange with

the Egnatia Highway). The Ionia Odos section

includes, among others, 24 bridges of single

carriageway of an approximate length of 7.0

km, as well as 4 tunnels of single carriageway

of an approximate length of 11 km.

It also includes a section of the PATHE motor-

way, with a length of approximately 172.5 km,

which stretches from the Metamorphosi inter-

change (Attiki Odos area) to Skarfeia –after the

town of Kammena Vourla– and the Schimatari-

Chalkis connecting branch of PATHE, with a

          total length of 11 km.

Almost all scheduled construction and upgrad-

ing work on the PATHE motorway has been

          completed.

          4) The E65 road axis is the one beset with the

worst delays. It includes the section that

extends from the semi-junction with PATHE at

Lamia to the interchange with Egnatia Odos

(total length of 174 km), as well as the opera-

tion of the PATHE section from Skarfeia to

          Raches.

According to the deal reached between the gov-

ernment and the concessionaire, the construc-

tion of the Lamia-Xyniada junction section (32

km) will be postponed to a future date, along with

the next 64 km section (Trikala-Egnatia), for

which a decision by the Council of State is still

          pending.
