unique dialogue of the old with the new, through
the Camerata's baroque period instruments.
A musical duel between the extrovert baroque
style and the diverse musical language of the
21st century, on an evening that, by all means,
holds many surprises and lots of adrenaline.

3RD YOUTH THEATRE
FESTIVAL
YOUTHS – CITIZENS OF THE WORLD
Connecting theatre with the young people's
concerns
After the 2nd Youth Theatre Festival that was held
in spring 2012, Grasshoper and the Onassis
Cultural Centre are presenting, with renewed
enthusiasm and inspiration, the 3rd Youth Theatre
Festival: three days full of performances stem-
ming from the methodical and intensive collabo-
ration of theatre groups from high schools, as well
as municipalities, with directors, actors and, for
the first time, three playwrights: Erifilli Lekka,
Georgia Mavragani and Lenos Christidis. Our aim
is to produce high quality Greek theatre for young
–as well as other– people, capitalizing on the cre-
ativity, imagination and talent of the new genera-
tion and our interaction with them. Moreover, this
year the Centre is launching its collaboration with
London's National Theatre and the Connections
project. This is a selection of plays that were com-
missioned to established playwrights, and were
staged in 2012 in various schools throughout the
UK. At the Centre, these plays will be read out by
youth theatre companies of Athens, adding a new
dimension to this year's Youth Theatre Festival.
“The youths of today are tomorrow's adults and
heirs to the chaotic situation we are bequeathing
them” says Yannis Tsiros, author of the play
Elefthera Ydata (Free waters), which is presented
by the Centre's Youth Theatre. The selection of a
political play for young people, combined with the
launching of an artistic exchange with other coun-
tries and institution at a crucial junction for our
country, also inspired the title of this year's festi-
val: Youths - Citizens of the world.

SUBHANKAR BANERJEE
INDIAN MUSIC SOLOIST DUETS
An Indian evening at the Centre, in a very
special performance
India's classical music operates in its own time
universe, resembling more of a prolonged ritual
than a Western concert. The Centre proposes
you an evening of three
jugalbandi
, that is duets
of soloists that are on an equal footing. This for-
mat allows the development of a high quality
musical dialogue between instruments from the
same or different families or between different
musical traditions (e.g. Carnatic and Hindustan).
Sarangi
is the most important bowed instrument
of the Hindustani tradition, famous for its timbre,
which resembles the sound of the human voice,
and one of the most ancient Indian string instru-
ments. The other two instruments that will add to
the dynamic closing of the evening are the well-
known
tablas
, and the
sreekhol
, a clay percussion
instrument that is struck from both sides.
In all parts, the tablas are played by Subhankar
Banerjee, one of the most important virtuosos of
the younger generation, who is also the music-
coordinator of the show.
Among the duets there will be intervals, during
which the members of the audience will have the
opportunity to taste Indian delicacies.
