n this scenario, Greece plays a strategic role.
Besides its great historical background, the
beauty of its natural landscapes and its wide
range of agricultural products and traditional arte-
facts, Greece today represents a key area in
terms of economic stability and social develop-
ment. Thanks to its pivotal geo-economic posi-
tion, Greece has always been a strong business
hub, offering access to the European Union,
Russia, South-Eastern Europe and the
Mediterranean countries and ensuring, in this
sense, high accessibility of goods and people.
These are all ingredients that make Greece a
privileged partner for Italian enterprises, in terms
of import-export trade, as well as investments.
Twenty years ago, when the Milan Chamber of
Commerce set up Promos, its Special Agency
devoted to supporting the international activities
of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, we
decided to concentrate our efforts in developing
and strengthening economic, political and social
relationships within the Euro-Mediterranean
Region, by creating the “Euro-Mediterranean
Laboratory”: a platform to enhance, promote and
Trade with Greece

Two centuries ago, Hegel looked at the Mediterranean as
the “axis of world history”. Today this basin is sur-
rounded by the European Union on one side –a unique
experience in the Western World– and by the countries
of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean rims on the
other side; overall, a potential market of more than 600
million consumers.
There is still a long way
to go, but we do believe
that we are on the
right track
