linked with the bid made for the transportation of
gas produced through the second stage of the
development of the Shah Deniz field. In any case,
Greece and Italy have left open the possibility of
using the Greco-Italian pipeline for the shipment
of Cypriot and Israeli gas to Europe.
Southern Corridor
Anyway, the Shah Deniz consortium, led by BP,
announced in late February its decision to launch
negotiations for realizing the southern corridor via
the TAP pipeline. BP spokespersons said that the
consortium decided to exclude the ITGI Turkish-
Greek-Italian pipeline from the bidding process.
This decision is related to the potential selection
of the southern route, while a similar decision will
be reached in regard to the northern route,
between the Nabucco West and SEEP pipelines.
Subsequently, the final decision between the
northern (to Central Europe) and southern (to
Italy) corridor will be.
As far as Russia's South Stream pipeline is con-
cerned, Gazprom is reportedly considering the
northern branch, i.e. a route that does not go
through Greece on the way to Italy.
