Julie Nioche –
Nos solitudes
At a crossroads as a choreographer, Julie Nioche
introduces herself to Festival audiences with “Nos
solitudes”, in which she is suspended above the
stage by a mechanism. But her gravity-defying
journey presupposes neither magic nor specta-
cle: what you see is a body in search of balance,
like a child learning to walk.
Mariinsky Theatre Ballet –
Don Quixote
“Don Quixote” is, with “Swan Lake”, one of the
two most popular Russian ballets. Based on
Cervantes’ novel, the ballet was first staged in
1869 to music by Leon Minkus and choreo-
graphed by Marius Petipa. A comeback of The
Mariinsky Theatre ballet to the Odeon of Herod
Atticus, since 2009.

Zimmermann & de Perrot –
Hans was Heiri
Zimmermann & de Perrot return to the Festival
with their new work, “Hans was Heiri”. The com-
pany from Switzerland combine dance, acrobat-
ics and original music in a subversive on-stage
spectacle in which everything seems to be in
place, but is actually not. A clutch of sewing
machines, a book on Jacques Tati, a Michael
Jackson record and a paper model of the stage
are the starting points for their new creation. Tales
of a bizarre quotidian play out on a revolving set
whose apparently gravity-free environment is
exploited to amusing and emotive effect.
